Disclaimer: As I’ve written before, the following post is a part of a larger series geared to air out more or less, ‘adult’ grievances and flush out underlying (as well as obvious) themes that I’ve found while watching these childhood movies over again.
*Please Note: I do not ‘blame’ Disney for any of my findings, as these are films based on very old fairy tales. However, as Disney has animated a vast percentage of these ancient tales, I will continue to say ‘Disney’ for continuity. *
*Also, not all cartoons animations of childhood fairy tales were the brain child of Disney, so I will attribute the production companies accordingly.*
It’s been years, y’all. But don’t think I forgot about this. And for our return to scratching our heads, let’s look at one of Disney’s messiest films, Sleeping Beauty.
May the strings make you smile, May they always remind you of me
When others merely had one song (maybe two), he had an entire playlist. Dozens of songs that made him come to mind, make him hard to forget. With each change of tempo, each inflection of tone, chord progression, whisper, or guttural groan.
I’m not sure if I truly understand the ways of man… Or maybe of those without mended wounds.
I wanted to turn me into an “us”, if just for a brief moment where we could explore our lust or shared desires. But at the time that was ours, the interlude was over before it could ever begin, so I think were we ever supposed to be a thing?
Maybe we were best suited for our roles before the whole ordeal — two people so wrapped up in our heads that only others like ourselves could possibly comprehend the many voices which live within.
And even after our “never been” came to an end, I still wanted for us to be friends. But the distance that always existed only persisted and it was as though we once again lived on the same planet but in different universes.
I get it — women tend to be difficult to read, but I was a book with the pages willfully exposed, waiting for a reader to bring each chapter to a close. And though our possibility has been tossed into the category of ‘what could’ve been,” I’d still like to know within you lies a friend.
It’s been a minute since I stepped into this Nerd Girl Corner and for this, I truly apologize to you all to leave you with no warning. That was truly rude of me. And to make my blasphemous actions even worse, I haven’t been keeping up with the likes of entertainment as I did in the past! Yiiiikes.
But much like this blog, I’m slowly making my way back to all things that gave me joy — like nerding out over all kinds of nerdy pop culture shit, so let’s do it! And I’ve got the perfect stuff to start with…
Could it be? Have ah truly returned to this here ol’ blog thingy-ma-jiggy? I reckon’ I have, babe!
It’s officially been overfour years since I last shared some words with the world on this here site. Four years, y’all. If it was a child, it would be able to tell you that it wanted to have Chic-Fil-A for lunch and let everyone on the line know that you were wearing a wig. That’s how long it’s been.
This whole attempting to be consistent things is a lot harder than I thought, huh? I promise I’ve been thinking of writing to you all, but your girl has been so ACTIVE these days, it’s cray cray. However, I do have some juicy tidbits to share — if you’re interested. Come on, you know you want to…
It’s Fri-yay and I definitely didn’t want to end the night without writing something new for you guys, as promised. So, I figured for today, I’d give you an NGC post about something new I’ve been doing: reading comic books! Continue reading →
I’ve been MIA for quite some time taking care of a few life changes, but now that most of them are squared away, I’m back — and with perfect timing too because a crap ton of trailers are out and I’m in my nerd girl feelings!
First up, we have the Captain America: Civil War trailer.
As you guys know, I wrote an extensive essay (OK, maybe it wasn’t that extensive) on why I wasn’t too thrilled about Channing Tatum channing his Tatum all over Gambit in an X-Men origins movie for the character. Well guys, it’s really happening. That’s right. Channing took to his Facebook this week to confirm that he’ll be bringing his Magic Mike swivel hips to the franchise as Remy Etienne LeBeau.
