Hello, my loves!
This whole attempting to be consistent things is a lot harder than I thought, huh? I promise I’ve been thinking of writing to you all, but your girl has been so ACTIVE these days, it’s cray cray. However, I do have some juicy tidbits to share — if you’re interested. Come on, you know you want to…
First up on the agenda is New York’s biggest gathering of nerds aka New York Comic Con! Unfortunately, this is the third year in a row I haven’t nabbed tickets to the occasion, but I’m hoping for a really good turn out of trailers, spoilers, and reveals… if SDCC didn’t unveil them all.
Though I won’t be in the thicket of things (this year), I’ll be making up for it somewhat by joining some of the coolest blerds I know at the BGN (Black Girl Nerds) & N.O.C. (Nerds of Color) meetup and mixer on Day 2 of the con.
Additionally, I’ll be attending Brooklyn’s first ever comic con, Fort Hamilton Comic Con 2016, where I’ll be vending my Pretty Poet INK accessories. The jury is still out on whether I’ll be doing so in cosplay as I’ve been aching to do one for a very, very long time.
And in case you’re wondering who I’d cosplay as, it would either be a contemporary version of X-Men‘s Rogue or Gwendolyn from Saga.
Moving on…
As you already know, I’m pretty invested in the live action Beauty & the Beast film coming in 2017. Recently, photos surfaced of Josh Gad as LeFou with Luke Evans in Gaston gear, Dan Stevens as The Beast in human form, and Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) and Cogsworth (Ian Mckellan) in CGI form. Now, we’ve finally got our first look at Emma Watson as the book-loving, prisoner/guest, Belle.
In another picture, we get a look at Belle and her CGI knight in shining coat of fur.
To be really honest with you guys, something is kind of lacking for me. I’m not sure what, but something’s not there. You know like when you’re cooking and the food tastes alright, but it’s missing that little bit of *UMPH*?
I dunno, y’all. I’m still ready to watch it and all that jazz, hoping it’ll do well and answer a lot of my questions, but something’s just a tad bit off. Maybe when we get the first official trailer, I’ll get a better feeling for it all.
Also — super random — I saw the trailer for this French Beauty & the Beast film that came out like 2 years ago and it actually looks fierce, despite the critics.
Did you see that trailer, though? That and another one had me sitting there like…
No joke, I really want to find this and watch it. And I hope this latest Disney adaptation gives me the same desire to rush to the theater.
Last but not least y’all know my love for The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl‘s Issa Rae, right? Well, the TV Gods were in my favor when Issa revealed via social media last Friday the first episode of her HBO show, Insecure, is on HBO Now/HBO Go.
You know what that meant?
Yup. I watched that episode. And it was soooo good. And it just furthered my belief that Issa is me and I am Issa and if we are the same then I can do just about anything. Except write an amazing show like that ’cause that’s all Issa’s talent right there.
Maybe I could do a short story on like several of the weird moments in my life or something… I don’t know. But, you can hear me gush with Sujata Day, aka Cee Cee from ABG and Sarah of Insecure on the Black Girl Nerds podcast here.
Honorable mentions for the week go to me heading to a screening of The Queen of Katwe starring Lupita Nyong’o and David Oyelowo.
And guess what? Lupita surprised your girl (and everyone as the early screening) with a quick visit and Q&A. You can catch my review and recap (with footage of Lupita chatting it up) here.
Also, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is out in theaters and I’d like to see it despite the fact they switched the main character’s abilities with a supporting character and seemingly changed a lot of the plot.
But, it’s a Tim Burton film (even though he has issues with casting POCs unless the role calls for it) and it’s Eva Green, so… you know:
Until then, I’ll continue to remember that I owe you guys a new Disney Headscratcher and well, try my best to not let another two months fly by before we chat. Then again, it is me.
Keep geeking out, folks and you guys are more than welcome to holla at a girl on Twitter to keep her on her toes.
